Forging a Military Career

Eric began his military service in 1995 by enlisting in the U.S. Army. Starting as an infantryman, he quickly advanced by earning a commission through the Virginia Military Institute, showing a strong work ethic and commitment to growth.

As a Mustang officer, he brought a dual perspective to leadership, understanding both enlisted and officer experiences. He completed airborne and Ranger training, which prepared him for six combat deployments in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Persian Gulf.

Eric's service continued as a paratrooper with the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions. Over 10 years on jump status, he completed 82 jumps and earned Master Rated Airborne Wings, demonstrating his significant contributions to airborne operations.

Leadership in Combat and Unit Operations

With greater responsibilities, he led troops in complex environments. During Operation Iraqi Freedom and several deployments to Afghanistan, he commanded ground units, directed operations, and supported mission success in challenging conditions.

In the 82nd Airborne Division, he served as Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer. He managed an enterprise of 830 personnel and later supported leadership in a 770-person parachute infantry battalion. His work in logistics, aviation support, training, and operational planning earned multiple Bronze Star awards in recognition of his effectiveness.

A Strategic Influence at the Pentagon

His career progressed into roles focused on strategic planning and interagency coordination. He held assignments with the Office of the Secretary of Defense Staff, the Joint Staff, and the Army Staff, where he worked closely with senior leaders on defense initiatives.

As Deputy Director and Chief of the Assessments Branch on the Joint Staff, he led capability assessments and concept development across service branches and commands. He also supported strategic planning under the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, aligning operational goals with technological development.

Eric Schnabel later served as Director of Joint Integration for the Office of the Secretary of Defense. In this position, he supported the Close Combat Lethality Task Force, working with the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Special Operations Command, and other partners to improve combat capabilities. He played a key role in coordinating efforts and securing funding for training, equipment, and research.

Transition to Civilian Leadership

After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after more than 25 years of military service, he transitioned into civilian roles, maintaining a continued focus on mission-oriented work. He moved into business development, supporting organizations aligned with the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

His extensive experience helped him build strategic pipelines, support competitive pursuits, and expand organizational impact. His structured, disciplined approach remained a defining aspect of his civilian contributions.

Commitment Beyond Profession

Beyond his professional life, he has remained intensely involved in community service. He dedicated 15 years to the Knights of Columbus, served in a leadership position at the Army-Navy Country Club, and served as HOA President for his neighborhood.
